Marvin Rillo’s Bid for a 2nd Term: Service that Speaks, Results You Can See

As the May 2025 midterm elections draw near, Quezon City 4th District Representative Marvin Rillo is seeking a second term in office. Known for his active presence in local communities, Rillo is running on a platform built around accessible healthcare, support for education, and strategic infrastructure development. Despite a recent controversy surrounding a stalled public works project, many of his constituents continue to back his candidacy.

Here’s a closer look at what defines his reelection bid:

Healthcare You Can Count On

One of Rillo’s standout priorities is healthcare. He facilitated the construction of two dialysis centers in Barangays U.P. Campus and Doña Imelda, offering critical treatment for residents suffering from chronic kidney disease. His office also actively provides free maintenance medicines and medical checkups, making day-to-day healthcare more accessible to the public.

A hallmark of his health program is the Blue Card—a district-level initiative that gives cardholders access to subsidized hospitalization, lab tests, and consultations.

Rillo has also pushed for hospital upgrades through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP), improving the standard of care in government-run facilities.

Education Is a Priority

Rillo’s support for education is visible on multiple fronts. Thousands of public school students receive free school supplies each year through his office’s efforts, reducing the burden on families and ensuring children can focus on learning.

He has also increased access to scholarships and financial aid, opening opportunities for youth who might otherwise struggle to afford tuition and school expenses.

Rillo’s administration has invested in school infrastructure as well, helping fund new classrooms, gymnasiums, and multi-purpose courts, creating better and safer learning environments.

The Controversy

While Rillo’s achievements are visible, his administration has also faced criticism. In February 2025, Citizens Crime Watch filed a complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman alleging possible malversation of public funds. The issue centers around an unfinished ₱71-million multi-purpose center at Carlos L. Albert High School.

Rillo has addressed the allegations, stating that while initial funding was released, subsequent phases were not approved, resulting in project delays—not fund misuse. The matter is currently under review.

But the People Still Approve

Despite this challenge, Rillo continues to enjoy strong public support. A recent RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. survey showed that he holds an impressive 94.6% approval rating, placing him among the top-performing lawmakers in the country.

Many residents credit his approachability, visibility, and consistent delivery of services as reasons for their continued support.

With election day fast approaching, voters in Quezon City’s 4th District must weigh Rillo’s record of public service against the issues raised by his critics. Will they choose to continue with proven leadership, or opt for a new direction?

One thing is clear: Marvin Rillo’s campaign is a mix of concrete results and questions of accountability—a reflection of the broader democratic process at work.
