As medical science continues to explore new frontiers in tissue repair, cellular therapies, and the body’s natural healing processes, the Philippine Society for Regenerative Medicine is bringing together leading local and international experts to advance scientific dialogue and responsible innovation in healthcare.
Healthcare is constantly evolving, and some of the most compelling developments are happening at the intersection of science, technology, and the human body’s ability to repair itself.
From exploring new approaches to tissue regeneration and wound care to investigating cellular science and its potential applications in various medical specialties, regenerative medicine is opening new avenues for scientific inquiry. While many approaches remain under investigation, the field is generating important conversations about how emerging discoveries may contribute to the future of patient care.
Taking the conversation forward, the Philippine Society for Regenerative Medicine (PSRM) will convene physicians, researchers, and medical specialists from the Philippines and abroad for its 1st Annual Convention on October 21–22, 2026, at Discovery Primea Makati.
Anchored on the theme “Leading Innovation in Philippine Regenerative Medicine,” the two-day gathering will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, professional collaboration, and discussions on emerging regenerative therapies, cellular science, and their potential applications across different areas of medicine.
The convention follows a press conference held on October 12 at the same venue, where PSRM leaders introduced the evolving field and offered a preview of the scientific discussions and expert presentations planned for the event.
Exploring New Frontiers in Medical Science
At its core, regenerative medicine explores how cells, biological materials, and other regenerative approaches may support the body’s natural processes of repair and restoration. As research advances, scientists are investigating how these approaches might contribute to a range of medical applications, including wound management, musculoskeletal conditions, neurological disorders, and reproductive health.
Developments in stem cell research, cell-based therapies, and cell-free approaches have expanded scientific understanding of how biological mechanisms may be harnessed for therapeutic purposes. However, the promise of these developments comes with an equally important responsibility: establishing their safety, effectiveness, appropriate applications, and limitations through rigorous scientific evaluation.
For PSRM, the convention represents an opportunity to examine these developments through informed professional discussion, bringing together experts who can explore both the possibilities and the challenges of translating scientific discoveries into responsible clinical practice.
Leading the conversation are PSRM President Dr. Quincy P. Raya, MD, and Vice President Dr. Daryl Joel “Butch” Dumdum, MD, DFM, FSRM, who will share their perspectives on the developments shaping regenerative medicine today.
From Cellular Research to Potential Clinical Applications
One of the featured presentations will be Dr. Raya’s lecture, “Emerging Regenerative Therapies for Autism, Parkinson’s Disease and Osteoarthritis: From Symptom Management to Targeted Cellular Repair.”

Her presentation will examine emerging research involving mesenchymal stem cell infusion and behavioral and electroencephalogram (EEG) outcomes in autism spectrum disorder, ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection of extracellular matrix for knee osteoarthritis, and the potential role of the mesenchymal stem cell secretome in Parkinson’s disease.
These topics illustrate the breadth of scientific investigation taking place within regenerative medicine, particularly in understanding how cells and their biological products may interact with different tissues and disease processes.
The discussion will also underscore the importance of continuing research to establish which approaches may prove safe and effective, identify appropriate patient populations, and determine their place in clinical practice. Investigational therapies should not be mistaken for established treatments, and their potential benefits must be assessed against the available clinical evidence.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dumdum will deliver “Cells That Heal, Cells That Kill,” a presentation exploring the scientific convergence of mesenchymal stromal cells, natural killer cells, and extracellular vesicles.
His lecture will examine how these cells and biological signals interact with tissue repair, immune regulation, and immune surveillance. Beyond the science itself, the presentation will address essential considerations in regenerative medicine, including product identity, potency, safety, host response, and responsible clinical translation.
Together, these discussions highlight a central challenge for the field: moving scientific discoveries forward while maintaining the standards of evidence, safety, and accountability that patients deserve.
A Global Exchange of Knowledge and Expertise
Regenerative medicine is a multidisciplinary field, and its progress depends on collaboration among specialists with different areas of expertise. Reflecting this approach, the PSRM convention will welcome speakers from the Philippines, India, and Malaysia.
Among the featured speakers is PSRM Vice President External Dr. Maria Romualdez Tan, who will discuss regenerative strategies and their potential applications in reproductive medicine.
PSRM founding board member Dr. Acel Pauline Ampong-Chicano, a reconstructive surgeon and wound care specialist, will focus on regenerative strategies for complex wounds. Her presentation will explore how emerging approaches may support tissue repair and contribute to wound management.
Representing the international scientific community, Dr. Prabhu Mishra, PhD, Founder-President of the International Association of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, will discuss platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), stromal vascular fraction (SVF), mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), exosomes, and secretomes.
His presentation will consider these approaches across different indications from a research perspective, providing an opportunity to examine their scientific foundations and potential applications.
Also joining the convention is Dr. Lan Leong Chung of Celgen Clinic in Malaysia, who will discuss the classification, characteristics, and clinical applications of mesenchymal stem cells and stromal vascular fraction.
The diversity of topics and international perspectives reflects the importance of cross-border collaboration in a rapidly developing scientific field. By bringing together medical professionals with varied specialties and research interests, the convention aims to encourage a deeper understanding of current developments while fostering connections that may support future scientific exchange.
Building a Community Committed to Responsible Innovation
Beyond the lectures and scientific discussions, the convention will also feature the conferment and induction of PSRM members, marking an important milestone in the Society’s continuing efforts to build a professional community dedicated to regenerative medicine in the Philippines.
The initiative reflects a broader goal: to encourage meaningful dialogue among clinicians, researchers, and specialists while promoting scientific rigor and responsible innovation.
As interest in regenerative medicine grows, the distinction between promising research and proven clinical benefit becomes increasingly important. Clear communication, evidence-based decision-making, patient safety, and appropriate clinical oversight remain essential to ensuring that scientific progress translates into responsible healthcare practices.
Through its annual convention, PSRM seeks to contribute to this conversation by providing a forum where emerging discoveries can be examined critically, professional knowledge can be shared, and opportunities for collaboration can take shape.

Shaping the Next Chapter of Philippine Healthcare
The future of regenerative medicine will depend not only on scientific breakthroughs but also on the ability of medical professionals to evaluate evidence, address unanswered questions, and determine how emerging approaches can be applied safely and appropriately.
For the Philippines, the PSRM 1st Annual Convention offers an opportunity to engage with this evolving field, connect local expertise with international perspectives, and strengthen the professional dialogue surrounding regenerative science.
With “Leading Innovation in Philippine Regenerative Medicine” as its guiding theme, the gathering looks toward a future in which innovation is matched by scientific responsibility and the pursuit of better patient outcomes.
The PSRM 1st Annual Convention begins at 9:00 a.m. on October 21, 2026, and continues through October 22 at Discovery Primea, 6749 Ayala Avenue, Makati City.
As the medical community explores new possibilities in healing and restoration, the convention aims to help ensure that the conversation moves forward with curiosity, collaboration, and a firm commitment to evidence-based healthcare.
